The Summertown Lady Eagles had a battle on their hands as they managed to come away from a road trip to Spring Hill with a 3-2 win.
Summertown jumped out to an early 12-7 lead over Spring Hill forcing the Lady Raiders to call a timeout. Junior Millie Emerson led the charge during that run with four kills in the set.
Spring Hill fought back midway through the set, taking the lead for the first time 16-14 and forcing the Lady Eagles to take their first time out.
Spring Hill went on to win the first set 25-17.
Starting off the second the Lady Eagles again jumped out to an early lead over, forcing Spring Hill to call a timeout after a 6-0 run.
Out of the timeout Spring Hill once again went on a run of their own, forcing Summertown to call a timeout and regroup with a 19-16 lead.
Senior Abbie Jo Shaffer took over as she closed out the set with five kills and one ace.
Back and forth the teams battled in the third, with Spring Hill building a big lead only to see Summertown fight back.
Ellie Mason stepped up in a big way during that run with three kills in the set and a total of six in the game.
Spring Hill did eventually pull away to win the third set and a 2-1 lead.
Summertown never gave up as they took over in the fourth and jumped out to a quick 11-5 lead. Shaffer once again showed her leadership as she had five kills early in the set.
Shaffer and the Lady Eagles didn’t stop there, eventually taking the fourth set 25-13 and knotting the match at two sets apiece.
Shaffer finished the game with 24 kills, three blocks and four aces.
Down to the fifth and final set, Summertown fell behind early, but Emerson came alive, leading to a 5-2 lead. She finished the game with an impressive 21 kills, two blocks and one ace.
Summertown won the set 15-7 and took the match 3-2.
