Loretto was back on the field last night going up against Collinwood in their season opener.
The Mustangs have been waiting all off-season to get back on the field, and they were ready for the challenge.
Starting the game, Loretto went down the field scoring on the second play with a 64-yard touchdown by Corbin Reynolds. Reynolds would finish the game with 123 yards and two touchdowns.
Later in the quarter, Loretto would score yet again this time with Nicholas McDow going for the touchdown. McDow would end the game with 134 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
The first play of the second quarter was a 94-yard touchdown to Jaxon Roberson from Mason Tidwell. Roberson would finish with 107 yards and one touchdown.
Later in the game, backed up on their one-yard line, Tidwell took a deep shot to Dillon Thompson for a 50-yard reception for the Mustangs.
Tidwell was the star of the game, completing 11 out of 17 passes and going for 328 total yards and three touchdowns.
Loretto would shutout Collinwood 35-0 to start the season off on the right note, 1-0.
Coach Daniel was very happy to see how his guys responded on opening night.
“Coming out of the game with energy and excitement,” Daniel said. “We’ve got a good group to coach and great kids that play hard and are very coachable,” Daniel said.
Daniel was very happy with the offensive side and how his team was able to respond and execute what the Trojans threw at them.
“Our offense is a little different dynamically,” Daniel said. “We’ve got four good receivers, and two good running backs, and Mason (Tidwell) is good being at quarterback. Our offensive line has come together early and excited and happy about their performance” Daniel said.
The Mustangs will be on the road next taking on the Wildcats in an in-county rival.
“We are going to enjoy this weekend and work with them on Monday and look at it like we did tonight and win the first quarter of that game and try to win the second quarter and keep going,” Daniel said. “It will be an intense game, an emotional game, a rivalry game, it’s a fun game” Daniel said.
Loretto defeated Lawrence County last year for the first time since 2002 and is looking for another big win over the Wildcats.
